Regis Manor School Games Report: Basketball
On Monday 28th November Regis Manor took a basketball team to participate in the local Sheppey & Sittingbourne festival. We had been ever-present for the last 5 years and were keen to join in once again and enjoy the day!
We were picked up and ‘chauffeur driven’ to Westlands Secondary School where we participated in a host of skill-based activities in the morning. These included: dribbling relays, 2 v 2, 1 v 1, shooting, passing and generally having some fun whilst learning new skills and refining old ones! All these activities were taken by year 12 Sports’ leaders who did a magnificent job with us all - thank you so much.
After skills it was lunch (much awaited!!!) and after, time to compete against Minterne and Westlands Primary for the chance to represent Sheppey & Sittingbourne in the Kent School Games 2012! Our first game saw us play Westlands Primary and we started brilliantly, going 2-0 up before half time. However they came back strongly and scored 2 (one right at the death) meaning a drawn game. The next game saw us face an extremely strong and talented side in Minterne. A beautiful basket by Bradley saw us go 1-0 which we held until half time. However the second half Minterne turned up the notch and came away as 6-1 winners.
Now it was important (vital) that we beat Westlands Primary (in our second meeting with them) to secure the silver medal…and this we did! Playing brilliantly and importantly as a team. Special mention to a fantastic basket by Jade – turning three players inside out and then scoring. The game ended 3-1; we had the silver medal in our hands! We played Minterne again and this time showed more resilience and determination; only losing 3-1.
The presentation ceremony showed that we had become Silver Medallists – a brilliant achievement! Thank you to all the Westland’s staff, Rosie Tribe and the Sports Leaders for a great day.
