We have recently written to all our Infant, Junior, Primary Headteachers regarding the future of school sport in Sheppey & Sittingbourne.
You may be aware, the Government has stopped direct funding for School Sport Partnerships. However, funding has been promised for 2011/12 and 2012/13 to sustain or increase competition within schools. The School Games is a great new opportunity for us all to work together to increase both the quality and the quantity of the opportunities for competitive sport which we provide for our young people.
The new School Games Organisers are being jointly funded by the Department of Health and Sport England for two years starting this September (2011). This will fund a three day week School Games Organiser for Sheppey & Sittingbourne, based at Borden Grammar School.
In addition the Department for Education is providing funding direct to state secondary schools, for a one day a week School Games Co-ordinator who will be released from their PE timetable. Unfortunately the Government still has not sent this information to secondary schools. Secondary timetables are currently being written and the lack of information may impact on the one day teacher release. However it is now May and we need to formalise plans for 2011/12.
Our School Sport Package is downloadable below, for your school to consider. This has been produced following analysis of the Primary Consultation that was sent to our infant, junior and primary schools. There was a 70% response rate to this consultation. We appreciate the time taken by PLTs and Headteachers.
We are offering schools the opportunity to commit to School Sport by buying in to the Sheppey & Sittingbourne School Sport Package. Within the package each school will receive a planning meeting and a day supporting PE and/or School Sport. This day (or two half days) can be arranged to meet your school needs, from Leadership Training to Fundraising event(s). Alternatively it can be exchanged for 6 hours coaching or bespoke training.
Rather than packages to choose between, that may not meet the needs of individual schools we have made it as simple as possible. The basic package can be supplimented with additional days support, CPD, coaches etc that can be added. The package will be staffed in addition to the School Games Organiser role.
To ensure all schools are able to sign up to the basic package we have secured funding for all schools that are currently part of our SSP, to cover the cost of the basic package 2011/12.
Please discuss this opportunity and return the reply slip by 9am Friday 10th June 2011.
Schools that sign up will be invited to a briefing meeting 4:30 Tuesday 14th June at Borden Grammar School. We would encourage both the Headteacher and PE/Games Co-ordinators to attend. Schools will be asked to assist with designing the years calendar, including making decisions such as deadlines for Virtual Competitions.
